Picture of the Day for 2/12/11

Here is my Picture of the Day and it is once again from the same article in National Geographic, The Long, Curious, Extravagant Evolution of Feathers: If feathers did not evolve first for flight, what was their purpose? This photo really captured my attention right off the bat it was the opening image when I entered the site for this article and I was in complete awe, fascination, and amazement if you will because once again I love the lighting on the feather showing its detail, the saturation of the feather, the angle that it was taken at and the choice of the background being black. I hope you guys like it. Here's the caption: "Red bird of paradise: Flank plumes, display Institute of Zoology and Zoological Museum, University of Hamburg."
